Mrs. McDowell's Classroom Management Plan
I firmly believe in the power of POSITIVE Reinforcement! In our classroom, the following are behavior management strategies used to keep your child's behavior on track:
CLIP CHART:
We use a Clip Chart in our classroom to help us monitor our behavior.
Students begin the day in the middle of the chart (on Green) and move their clothespin up or down during the day depending on the choices they make regarding their behavior.
OUTSTANDING!: If students move their clip to PINK, or the “TOP of the CHART!
GREAT DAY: Students who move to PURPLE are being great role models to their peers.
GOOD DAY: If students move their clip to BLUE, they are going above and beyond and making smart choices.
READY TO LEARN: Each student begins the day with their clip on GREEN.This is the goal and expectation for the day.
THINK ABOUT IT: If a student moves the clip to YELLOW, it is meant to be a warning about the behavior. Time is given for the student to make a better choice. NO note will be send home.
TEACHER’S CHOICE:When a student moves their clip to ORANGE, they take a break from the group or other option to be decided by the teacher. A note will come home giving you information about your child's choices for the day. Please discuss it with them at home and feel free to contact me with any questions or if clarification is needed.
PARENT CONTACT and/or OFFICE:If a student moves to RED parents will be contacted and/or the student will be seen by an administrator. A note will come home, from teacher or administrator, giving you information about your child's choices for the day and consequences. Please discuss it with them at home and feel free to contact me with any questions.
In addition to the Clip Chart, we use the following:

In addition to the Clip Chart, we use the following:
BRAG TAGSBrag Tags are incentives your child can earn for positive behavior and the choice that he/she makes during the school day. The tags are on a necklace that is to be kept at school. It will come home at the end of the school year. You will get to celebrate their accomplishments as I send little progress notes periodically throughout the year. BRAG about them!!!

MONTHLY LOGSI will be keeping a monthly log of your child’s color of the day (from the behavior clip chart) in their “Green” take home folder. I feel it is important for parents to monitor their child’s behavior. It is a great time to talk to your child about their day. Each night, it is encouraged for a parent to initial beside the colored dot, so I can assure that a parent has acknowledged their child’s behavior. Once the student has reached 10 ‘’ green” dots on their log, they will earn a prize for their outstanding behavior.
